Monitor Configuration

To configure the HotDBWAN monitor, click on "Monitor Configuration" in the "File" menu.

General

The general tab contains the general properties that control the monitor's behavior.

The monitor auto refresh interval is the number of minutes to occur between every time the monitor is automatically refreshed. Set the refresh interval on the "Monitor auto refresh interval" up-down control.

The SQL agent check runs frequently and checks if the SQL agent of a certain server is started. The SQL agent check interval is the number of minutes to occur between every time the monitor checks every server's SQL agent. Set the check interval on the "SQL agent check interval" up-down control.
If the SQL agent check finds the agent stopped, it will either automatically start it or prompt you using a HotDBWAN alert. Choose which option you prefer most and select it in the "SQL agent check" group box.

The HotDBWAN package alerts is the way HotDBWAN informs you about the failures of package activities. When the number of a source's backup job sequential failures exceeds the backup alert threshold, the source status changes to "Failure" and a backup alert window appears at the bottom-right side of the screen. When the number of a target's restore job sequential failures exceeds the out of sync alert threshold, the target status changes to "Failure" and an out of sync alert window appears at the bottom-right side of the screen.
If you want HotDBWAN to alert you about these failures, check the "Alert when backup or out of sync alert threshold exceeds it's value" checkbox.
If you want the alert to appear only when the source or target status is changed, choose the "Only when the source or target status changes" option, else, choose the "Every time" option.

Disc Space

The HotDBWAN disk space check was designed to guard the free disk space of all the participating servers' hard drives and all the network paths' disks. Every hard drive of every participating server and every network path participating in all the packages has its own low capacity threshold. When HotDBWAN finds one of the locations' free disk space below its threshold, it will alert you using a HotDBWAN alert.

The disk space check interval is the number of minutes to occur between every time the disk space check runs. Set the check interval on the "Disk space check interval" up-down control.

The disk space locations list presents all the locations the 'disk space check' checks and lets you customize which location will be checked and what is its threshold. Use the "on/off" checkbox on the left of every location to turn the disk space check on or off for that location. Use the "Threshold" up-down control on the right of every location to set the disk space check threshold for that location.

Email Alerts & Report

Email Alerts

The HotDBWAN email alerts is your way to get alerts about the HotDBWAN operations by email. To send the email alerts, a local or a network SMTP service is needed. Make sure that the SMTP server security configuration is set properly.

Check the "Send an email for every alert" checkbox in order to turn on the email alerts.

In the "Alerts" group box, enter the alert email subject, sender and recipients in the "Subject", "From" and "To" textboxes relatively.

Email Report

The HotDBWAN email report is a daily report sent via email covering all active packages and their current status. To send the email report, a local or a network SMTP service is needed. Make sure that the SMTP server security configuration is set properly.

Check the "Send a daily report by email" checkbox in order to turn on the email report.

In the "Daily Report" group box, enter the report email subject, sender and recipients in the "Subject", "From" and "To" textboxes relatively. Choose the hour of day which the email report will be sent at in the "Report At" time picker.

SMTP Server

Set the SMTP server. If one exists on the local machine, choose the "Local SMTP Server" option, else choose the "Other" option and type the SMTP server's domain or computer name. Configure the SMTP server parameters according to the server you will be using.

Once you click the "OK" button to finish and save the monitor configuration, an SMTP server test will run to make sure a connection to the SMTP service could be made.

If the SMTP server test succeeds, a test email will be sent to the recipient email. Make sure the email is received at the recipient/s email inbox.

LAN Alerts

This option enables you to receive every HotDBWAN monitor alert to an SQL Server table located on the network. The structure of the alerts table must be as follows :

ID int IDENTITY(1, 1) NOT NULL
DateTimeStamp datetime NOT NULL
AlertType nchar(1) NOT NULL
AlertObject nvarchar(50) NOT NULL
MessageType nvarchar(20) NULL
Message nvarchar(3000) NOT NULL

Creating the table yourself is unnecessary. HotDBWAN will create it in the database server you specify.
To get alerts via LAN, check the "Insert HotDBWAN alerts to an SQL Server table on the LAN" checkbox, enter the database server login information in the "Server Name", "Username", "Password" and "Database" textboxes and choose a name to the alerts table on the selected database.
Click on the "Check Connection" to validate the information. If the table does not exist, HotDBWAN will create and test it.

LAN alert types table:

Alert Types Description
ServerError HotDBWAN cannot connect a server.
Backup Package - backup alert.
OutOfSync Package - out of sync alert.
SQLAgent SQL agent of a server is stopped.
MissingJobs One or more jobs are missing in a package or in a server.
LowDiskSpace Low disk space on a physical drive or a network location.
